Chinook High School - Lethbridge
My professional semester II turned out to be nothing less than amazing. Admittedly, I was a little bit nervous to have to teach grade 10, 11 and 12, however they turned out to be great students to work with.
I had the pleasure of working with two teacher mentors which allowed me to get many different perspectives on teaching. I taught Information Processing 10 and Finanial Managment 10, and 20, both classes were polar opposite of each other. My Information Processing had many students that had picked up the course because they heard it "was easy credits" and they could stay on games all day. My biggest challenge with them was to get the buy in from them that it was a very valuable class. The finanical management class would not move their heads away from computing digits if I offered them money. Both classes presented different challenges that I had to work hard to overcome with the help of my teacher mentors.
After a couple of weeks I gained my confidence in both classes and noticed a change in the students reaction to me being in charge. I strugged with the gaming a little bit but for the most part students were tuned into my lectures and then were allowed to play games in my classroom on their own time.
My experience at Chinook was amazing, thank you to my teacher mentors and Chinook staff.
